Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain Veneers

First impressions are important. Your smile is one of the most noticed features. More than ever, the public is turning to our cosmetic dentist, Dr. Kate Brayman, for help in improving the appearance of their teeth.

Receiving porcelain veneers in NYC has grown in popularity over the years due to their ability to solve a number of aesthetic issues. Previously, the only cosmetic options were to either have your teeth whitened or braces. Now, with the technological boom, porcelain veneers are not only visibly brightening your smile, but also correct misaligned teeth without having the longevity and occasional uneasiness associated with braces.

What are porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers are thin, tooth like materials specifically created to cover the front surface of the tooth. Once these shells are bound to the tooth, they change the color, shape, size and length of the tooth. There are two types of dental veneers: porcelain and resin. Porcelain, however, are preferred because of the stain resistant qualities of the material and the gums tolerate it better than resin.

Porcelain Veneers Treat The Following:
Broken or chipped teeth
Irregularly shaped teeth
Misaligned or uneven teeth
Gaps between teeth
Stained or discolored teeth due to medicines, food and other factors
Discoloration due to old resin fillings

How do porcelain veneers work?

In order to create porcelain veneers, Dr. Brayman will have to remove some enamel off the tooth before bonding the porcelain shells. We do this so that the overall thickness of your tooth remains the same once the veneers are in the place. During the process, the patient may feel sensitivity and Dr. Brayman may opt to use some numbing agents to address this sensation. One of our high-tech dentistry tools is the Magic Wand, which is a painless computerized dental shot. In recent years, a new kind of porcelain veneer called Lumineers offers the benefits of veneers without initially removing the enamel. These specific types of shells are thin enough that no special preparation is needed. Only certain patients with small teeth or gaps between the teeth are candidates for Lumineers.
